20-Mile

New for 2011, our all new 20-mile course is perfect for beginners. This new course gives you a taste of the challenges and scenery of the Hill Country in a beginner-friendly format. After winding through the picturesque countryside filled with rivers and streams, quintessential Texas longhorn and white tailed deer, you will head back home where the post event party will be waiting.
Actual course measures 18.6 miles and has 512 feet of climbing.
45-Mile

The 45-mile course is great for rider who wants the mileage but not the difficulty that is faced with the 65- and 90-mile course options. The course departs out of Dripping Springs, also known as the “gateway to the Hill Country” with a complete lane closure on Hwy. 290 before turning right onto Roger Hanks Parkway where the beauty Hays County is immediately recognized. After winding through the picturesque countryside filled with rivers and streams, quintessential Texas longhorn and white tailed deer, you will continue in the direction of the quaint town of Wimberley before turning on Hwy. 2325 to head back home where an amazing post event party will be waiting.
The total climbing elevation for the 45 mile course is 2,902 feet.
65-Mile

The 65-mile course will take you deep into Hays County on the lonely and picturesque country roads that are responsible for making Lance Armstrong a household name. As you head out Hwy. 290, you’ll relish in the open road and the “gateway to the Hill Country.” After winding through the picturesque countryside filled with rivers and streams, quintessential Texas longhorn and white tailed deer, you will continue through the quaint town of Wimberley before turning on River Road and riding alongside the Blanco River. Here the course will become more rural and eventually land you at the base of the hardest climb of the Austin Challenge at Days End Road. This 600 foot vertical stinger will make for a fitting conclusion to a great day in the saddle. Finally, you will reach Pumpstation Road and head back home where an amazing post event party will be waiting.
The total climbing elevation for the 65 mile course is 4,382 feet.
90-Mile

The 90-mile course will take you deep into Hays and Blanco Counties on lonely and picturesque country roads that are responsible for making Lance Armstrong a household name. The course departs out of Dripping Springs, also known as the ‘gateway to the hill country’ and will experience a complete lane closure on Hwy. 290 before turning right onto Roger Hanks parkway where the beauty Hays County is immediately recognized. After winding through the picturesque countryside filled with rivers and streams, quintessential Texas longhorn and white tailed deer, you will continue through the quaint town of Wimberley before turning on River Road and riding alongside the Blanco River. Here the course will become more rural and you will begin the march towards Blanco where a well deserved Power Stop will be waiting. From Blanco, you will begin the journey home where an amazing post event party will be ready for your arrival.
*90 mile riders who do not reach Mile 36 (at Cottonwood Rd) by 11 a.m. will be rerouted to the 65 mile course.
The total climbing elevation for the 90 mile course is 5,871 feet.
General Notes:
- Please note that any training or similar activities using these cue sheets are not part of a sponsored walk, run or ride, and that Lance Armstrong Foundation, Medalist Sports, LLC, NIKE USA and their respective affiliates are not responsible in any manner for conditions encountered or injuries incurred on these courses and routes prior to or following the Team LIVESTRONG Challenge event.
- Due to the varying difficulty of the Tea LIVESTRONG Challenge courses and in an effort maintain a high safety standard, the Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Ride support (Mechanical, SAG, Medical and Course Signage) will end 8 hours after starting (4:30 p.m. in Austin). If you are still on course after 7.5 hours and on pace to not finish in 8 hours, you will politely be asked by our staff to allow a SAG vehicle to take you to a safe location near the finish line. Here, you will be allowed to ride through the finish and enjoy the Post Event Party activities.
- The Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Austin could not take place without the support and coordination of numerous local agencies such as Hays County Sheriff’s Department, City of Dripping Springs and its residents, City of Wimberley and Blanco, Dripping Springs ISD, Travis County EMS and TxDoT along with a wealth of local volunteers. Please obey the rules of the road and respect the local citizens who welcome this event with open arms.
- The Austin course can be difficult with the constantly undulating chip seal roads and unpredictable weather. There will be Power Stops with food and hydration along with mechanical and medical support every 10-15 miles. There will also be numerous SAG (Support and Gear) vehicles along the course that will assist with your journey.
- Power Stops include food, water and isotonic beverages to ensure caloric and hydration needs are met throughout the event. To further ensure safety standards are met, medical and mechanical support will also be available at most Power Stop locations along with restroom facilities.
Power Stops are sponsored by local businesses and organizations that provide volunteers to staff the stops along with a fun theme for riders to enjoy.
- What is available:
- Food—fruit (usually bananas, orange, and grapes), peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, assorted cookies, trail mix, granola bar, and gummi bears. Food may vary slightly city to city.
- Drinks—water and Isotonic drinks (Gatorade or similar)
- Medical—tent and basic supplies staffed by approved medical professionals
- Mechanical—tent staffed by mechanics to perform minor repairs including tires, tubes, cables, brakes, etc.
- Restroom Facilities—portable units available at all stops
- Communications—we will have direct contact with the main venue and command center for emergencies or important messages
- The Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Series maintains a high standard for support—we encourage all riders to utilize the available support put in place to make your journey as safe as possible.
- The Austin course does have a few minor technical descents. There will be ample signage along the course identifying these descents. Please make sure you review the bicycle safety documents and approach all technical areas with caution.
