In 2008, I rode in RAGBRAI to honor my wife, Cheryl as a 22 year cancer survivor. I rode for Team LIVESTRONG and learned of all it had to offer those living with cancer and those living with those who have cancer. 22 days after I returned from that successful ride, I learned I had prostate cancer. My father had it so I always knew it was likely to be in my future but not at the ripe old age of 53. It was then that I learned how much LIVESTRONG had to offer. I developed my attitude, game plan and perserverance through information, support and encouragement I received from the LIVESTRONG organization and family. I found other survivors who offered advice and encouragement. I found doctors to consider, consult with and ultimately to choose to lead my fight. I found Dr. Ian Thompson, the world's greatest prostate cancer Doc. And, to date, we have been successful! This July will be my fourth RAGBRAI and my third since surviving my diagnosis. Ever forward!
As part of Team LIVESTRONG, I'm making a difference in the fight against cancer. I've joined with other people around the globe and across different events to raise money for the LIVESTRONG Foundation.
The Foundation serves people affected by cancer and empowers them to take action against this disease that is now the world's leading cause of death. LIVESTRONG has become a symbol of hope and inspiration to people affected by cancer around the world.
The money I raise will support programs and services for cancer survivors. These resources help people diagnosed with cancer face the challenges of the disease head on and live life on their own terms. Livestrong.org/WeCanHelp
