We fight to improve the lives of people affected by cancer
"You have cancer." Those three words rocked my world and changed my life; well, actually changed the very person I am today. I am approaching my 20th year of
survivor-ship. On November 29, 1994 I had surgery for breast cancer. On
December 29, 1994 I began chemo therapy which lasted for over 6 months.
My reconstructive surgeries were finished over a year later. It was a
very long year – not only for me, but for my family. Cancer
strikes when you least expect it and affects everyone around you. It
shakes your foundation and lives with you forever. I had no family
history, no at-risk behaviors, and I was only 42 years old. NO ONE
should EVER have to hear the words, “You have breast cancer.” I give
back because I would love to hear my
grandchildren ask, “What WAS breast cancer?”
As part of Team LIVESTRONG, I'm making a difference in the fight against cancer. I've joined with other people around the globe and across different events to raise money for the LIVESTRONG Foundation.
The Foundation serves people affected by cancer and empowers them to take action against this disease that is now the world's leading cause of death. LIVESTRONG has become a symbol of hope and inspiration to people affected by cancer around the world.
The money I raise will support programs and services for cancer survivors. These resources help people diagnosed with cancer face the challenges of the disease head on and live life on their own terms. Livestrong.org/WeCanHelp
