I should have been dead at 24!
Had I listened to my doctor's decision on my shoulder pain back in '91, and just "forgotten all about this"; I'd be dead. "This" turned out to be a 2.5 pound tumor that was growing between my right lung and my heart. Surgeons later said that it was about 3-4 weeks from growing into my heart wall; but I digress...
But this isn't about me...
It was five years after my diagnosis that my Father heard "you have cancer". He was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. My half brother was just 10 when he was diagnosed, and was 11 when our Dad passed away roughly 11 months after diagnosis.
...it's about supporting the LIVESTRONG Foundation!
LIVESTRONG would have been a great resource to have back during my or my father's fight; but it wasn't created yet; then again, come to think of it, the internet wasn't around either. The key thing is they are here now... and for the past 17 years I've been volunteering and fund-raising to support their efforts.
They provide practical support and information for those diagnosed (and their families) today!
