Research Program

We fund cancer survivorship research that builds on the body of knowledge and services to improve quality of life for cancer survivors across physical, psychosocial and practical challenges.

In addition, we fund community-based participatory research (CBPR), through which community members and researchers collaborate in a mutual learning process to research and solve survivorship issues identified by the community.

Past LAF funding also supported the basic and clinical research of testicular cancer and the creation of the Germ Cell Tumor and Tissue Bank Resource at the University of Southern California.

Aiming to support research that is not readily fundable from traditional sources, we award cancer survivorship research and CBPR grants to established investigators as well as young investigators in the early stages of their research careers. LAF funding attracts promising young investigators to the field of cancer survivorship and helps to ensure that these researchers have the opportunity to establish a foothold in the field of cancer survivorship research.

Each grant recipient completes a rigorous application process, and proposals are peer-reviewed by a selection committee of scientific experts and lay reviewers.

Since 1998, the LAF has awarded more than $19.1 million in research grants.
