HELP FOR CANCER PATIENTS IN HURRICANE-STRICKEN AREAS
With hundreds of thousands of people in the Gulf Coast region displaced by Hurricane Katrina, cancer patients who are now far from home may have trouble over the coming weeks getting access to the cancer treatment they need. For cancer patients in need of acute care, it is important that their treatment not be interrupted.
The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) is reaching out to oncology practices, cancer centers, and hospitals in the surrounding region to find out which ones are able to help displaced patients from the evacuated areas who are in need of urgent, acute care.
Below is a list of oncology practices in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas -- as well as other states -- that have indicated they can care for patients in need of treatment during this time. Patients can call the doctor's office or cancer centers from the list below to find out how they can receive treatment while they are unable to access their primary care facility.
This list can also be found on ASCO's website at www.asco.org, and will be continually updated as information from additional care providers becomes available.
