CANCER SURVIVORS TO CONVENE AT LIVESTRONG™ SUMMIT TO CHANGE THE FACE OF SURVIVORSHIP
Lance Armstrong Foundation Invites Nationwide Applications from Survivors, Caregivers, Friends and Family Affected by Cancer

AUSTIN, Texas - May 2, 2006 - The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) announces a call for applications to attend its inaugural LIVESTRONG™ Summit, a weekend-long event to organize, inspire and direct the efforts of cancer survivors from across the country to change the face of cancer survivorship. The LIVESTRONG Summit will be held October 27-29, 2006, in Austin, Texas.

Inspired and led by conference speakers such as Lance Armstrong, Senator John Kerry, President's Cancer Panel Chair LaSalle D. Leffall, Jr., M.D., author Jim Collins and FasterCures Chairman Michael Milken, approximately 1,000 Summit participants will develop goals and action plans to raise awareness and effect change around the needs of cancer survivors. Following the LIVESTRONG Summit, the LAF will expect participants to apply the action plans in their own communities and nationwide.

"As cancer survival rates increase and more people live with cancer each year, we know that people face a new set of challenges throughout diagnosis, treatment and the rest of their lives," said Mitch Stoller, president and chief executive officer of the LAF.  "The goal of the LIVESTRONG Summit is to raise awareness for survivorship - the emotional, physical and practical challenges of living with cancer - and to train advocates to help make this issue a national priority."

Through an application process, the LAF will identify current and potential leaders who are willing to champion the cause of cancer survivorship nationally and in their local communities. The LAF seeks a geographic, ethnic and socioeconomic cross-section of Americans affected by various cancer types.

"We encourage anyone interested in participating in the Summit - from those recently diagnosed through post-treatment, to caregivers, family and friends - to apply to attend," Stoller said.

Summit delegates are responsible for a $115 conference fee that covers conference materials and meals. For accepted applicants in need of financial assistance, the LAF will offer conference fee scholarships and/or travel scholarships (including transportation and lodging). Once accepted, Summit delegates are strongly encouraged to apply for scholarships.
