LANCE ARMSTRONG FOUNDATION ELICITS CALL FOR NEW WAR ON CANCER FROM DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES
Cedar Rapids, Iowa - August 27, 2007 - Today Democratic presidential candidates Senator Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Congressman Dennis Kucinich and Governor Bill Richardson promised to significantly increase funding for cancer research and engage in several policy efforts to renew the fight against cancer at the first-ever LIVESTRONG Presidential Cancer Forum.
The LIVESTRONG Presidential Cancer Forum, a two-day event sponsored by the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF), is providing 2008 presidential hopefuls with an opportunity to state their plans to combat the leading killer of Americans under the age of 85.
The forums are moderated by Lance Armstrong and MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews.
"We began an important conversation today and demonstrated that cancer should be part of the national dialogue as we choose our next leader," said Armstrong, founder and chairman of the LAF. "I want to thank Senator Clinton, John Edwards, Congressman Kucinich and Governor Richardson for participating today. We hope this is the first of many conversations throughout the presidential campaign."
The LIVESTRONG Presidential Cancer Forum will continue on Tuesday, August 28, at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Republican candidates Senator Sam Brownback and Governor Mike Huckabee will participate.
Free tickets for tomorrow's forum are available at www.livestrong.org/forum.
