President's Cancer Panel

In May of 2002, President George W. Bush appointed Lance Armstrong to serve as a member of the President's Cancer Panel (PCP), and in August of 2005, President Bush reappointed Lance to the PCP for a second, three-year term. The PCP monitors the development and execution of the activities of the National Cancer Program and reports directly to the President.

This three-person panel is currently chaired by LaSalle D. Leffall, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S., of the Howard University College of Medicine, Washington, D.C. Margaret L. Kripke, Ph.D., of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, also sits on the panel.

As a member of the PCP, Lance works hard to raise awareness of cancer survivorship issues. In 2004, he and his fellow PCP members traveled the country interviewing cancer survivors about the issues that they experienced as a result of their diagnosis. PCP meetings on cancer survivorship were held in San Francisco, Columbus, OH, Houston and New York City.
