Community Program Accomplishments
The Community Program is an LAF public health initiative to help organizations develop community-centered survivorship programs that impact cancer survivors in their local communities. As the LAF evolves, we continue to value innovative approaches in the programs we support. Below is a timeline of our Community Program accomplishments:
2001:
--Started with 1 start-up grant (Austin, Texas)
2002:
--Established general cancer survivorship pilot projects as our priority
--Initiated pilot of Community Program
--Gave 8 one-year grants to community programs throughout Central Texas
2003:
--Based on Lance's personal experience, established physical activity and adolescents/young adults as priorities, along with survivorship education, a broad area that would include many different types of worthwhile survivorship programs
--Expanded the program nationwide
--Gave 54 one-year grants to community programs in 27 states and Washington, D.C.
2004:
--Established palliative and end-of-life care as a 4th priority
--Awarded our first multi-year grants
