Community Program Accomplishments

Our community program provides financial support and capacity-building to community-centered initiatives that address the physical, emotional and practical challenges of cancer survivorship. As the LAF evolves, we continue to value innovative approaches in the programs we support.

Below is a timeline of our community program accomplishments:

2001:

  • Started with 1 start-up grant in Austin, Texas

2002:

  • Established general cancer survivorship pilot projects as our priority
  • Initiated pilot of Community Program
  • Gave 8 one-year grants to community programs throughout Central Texas

2003:

  • Based on Lance's personal experience, established physical activity and adolescents/young adults as priorities, along with survivorship education, a broad area that would include many different types of worthwhile survivorship programs
  • Expanded the program nationwide
  • Gave 54 one-year grants to community programs in 27 states and Washington, D.C.

2004:

  • Established palliative and end-of-life care as a 4th priority
