What is Fertile Hope?
Fertile Hope is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to providing reproductive information, support and hope to cancer patients whose medical treatments present the risk of infertility. Fertile Hope is meeting the needs of cancer patients and survivors through programs in awareness, education, financial assistance, support and research. The organization was founded in 2001 by cancer survivor Lindsay Nohr Beck as a result of her own endeavors to preserve her fertility in the face of critical cancer treatments. Today, Fertile Hope is made up of a team of business, medical and scientific professionals equipped with the necessary experience, skills and dedication to effectively meet the needs of patients at risk of infertility.
How are the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) and Fertile Hope working together to improve the lives of people affected by cancer?
Through a three-year cooperative agreement with the LAF, Fertile Hope will develop educational programs that are intended to increase knowledge and positively change attitudes and behaviors regarding cancer and fertility; develop effective, sustainable programs to increase access to fertility preservation treatments; and provide a vehicle to fund cancer and fertility research.
How can I get involved?
You can further the work of the LAF and Fertile Hope by:
-
Increasing awareness of fertility preservation among cancer survivors in your community. Fertile Hope offers free brochures to educate cancer survivors about cancer and fertility. Cancer survivors can distribute copies of these materials to doctor's offices, cancer centers and hospitals. To order copies of these materials, visit www.fertilehope.org.
-
Educating health care professionals about cancer-related fertility. Health care professionals can contact Fertile Hope to invite a reproductive expert to present on this important survivorship topic. Presentations can be made during sessions like grand rounds, regional medical association meetings or local symposiums through the Fertile Hope Cancer & Fertility Professional Education program. For more information, to schedule a presentation or to order copies of materials, visit www.fertilehope.org.
