Advocate at the Local Level

We are the voice of more than 10 million cancer survivors, their caregivers, family members and friends.

We advocate for increased awareness of survivorship issues and increased funding for survivorship programs. We encourage our elected officials to break down barriers to care, fund cancer research and ensure that those living with cancer in our country are represented when important decisions are made on Capitol Hill.

Here are some ways you can get started:

  1. Organize or participate in a local LIVESTRONG Day event.
  2. Join the fight. Become part of the LIVESTRONG Army and sign up for the monthly advocacy newsletter. Participants work hand-in-hand with Lance and the LAF to make cancer a national priority.
  3. Ask five people to join the LIVESTRONG Army.
  4. Register to vote. (View PDF with Adobe Acrobat Reader.)
  5. Encourage your friends and family to register to vote.
  6. Get educated! Learn the names of your elected officials as well as other information, such as their voting record(s) on issues that impact people affected by cancer on www.senate.gov and www.house.gov .
  7. Read our advocate spotlight stories.
  8. Read Lance's blog.

And other ways to take action:

  1. Distribute LIVESTRONG Survivorship Notebooks to cancer survivors to help them organize their cancer experiences.
  2. Refer cancer survivors to LIVESTRONG SurvivorCare for one-on-one help dealing with their cancer.
  3. Give LIVESTRONG wristbands to inspire loved ones affected by cancer.
  4. Create and share your video on LIVESTRONG Live.
  5. Vote!
