SUMMARY:
The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) unites people through programs and experiences to empower cancer survivors to live life on their own terms and to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. We focus on cancer prevention, access to screening and care, research and quality of life for cancer survivors. Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, the LAF has raised more than $250 million for the fight against cancer. Until now, the LAF has focused its efforts almost exclusively in the U.S. but is now expanding its activities to the international arena. This job description describes the responsibilities for the newly created position of International Project Manager, Education and Program Development.

The International Project Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating the LAF’s expansion into international cancer control. The Project Manager’s major focus will be coordinating an international cancer awareness campaign and developing patient advocacy tools and resources for people affected by cancer who live outside the U.S. Job duties include advising on messaging, partners and communications for the campaign, conducting on-going research on existing programs and needs to identify areas for LAF’s potential involvement, collaborating with external consultants, developing patient advocacy tools and resources, and successfully building relationships with organizations active in international cancer control. Additionally, the Project Manager will help to represent the LAF at international meetings and conferences. The position will report to the Director of Education and Program Development and will work closely with the Education and Program Development team.

ROLE QUALIFICATIONS:

The LAF is looking for a team member who will make a productive contribution through distinct but complementary knowledge and skills. Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Strong interest in supporting and contributing to the LAF mission
  • Proven experience in international public health
  • Demonstrated relationship-building skills
  • Proven organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks and high volume of work on deadline
  • Experience in conducting health-related outreach to targeted audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically with an understanding of marketing/public relations and outreach strategies, practices and techniques
  • Demonstrated cross cultural sensitivity
  • Awareness of global non profit practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with internal team, advisory board, external partners and consultants in developing, implementing and evaluating an international awareness campaign intended to reduce the stigma associated with cancer
  • Assist in the development of messaging and outreach strategies to support the campaign Work with internal teams to ensure the integration of the campaign into LAF’s marketing and programmatic activities
  • Develop work plans and oversee scheduling and timelines for projects to ensure timely completion and delivery of project responsibilities
  • Collaborate with planning and evaluation team to ensure proper monitoring and evaluation of all international initiatives
  • Help develop patient advocacy training materials, including innovative methods to train advocates remotely
  • Research, recruit, and manage ongoing relationships with local partner organizations in priority countries
  • Build relationships with international organizations and participate in international working groups
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies for international cancer survivors and professionals working with survivors
  • Present at conferences and meetings on the LAF’s international initiatives
  • Collaborate and provide programmatic support for the Education and Program Development Team
  • Perform other related duties as necessary

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health or related field and 3-5 years experience working in public health programming
  • Experience working, volunteering or living internationally
  • Understanding of marketing/public relations and outreach strategies, practices and techniques
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, technical, writing, and verbal skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work well with limited supervision; independent problem-solving skills to handle multiple tasks and to prioritize appropriately
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

TRAVEL:
This position will include up to 30% travel, including international travel.

COMPENSATION:
Position is full-time with complete benefits package. Salary is partially determined by experience and education.
