GRASSROOTS FIELD Coordinator
SUMMARY: The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) believes that in the battle with cancer unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist, Lance Armstrong, the LAF provides the practical information and tools people with cancer need to live life on their own terms.
The LAF sponsors national advocacy initiatives to help the voice of the cancer community be heard in Washington. By educating lawmakers and the public, LAF helps raise awareness about the health policy issues facing cancer survivors and their loved ones.
The LAF is seeking a results-oriented professional to implement our field organizing program. The LAF seeks a qualified professional with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and a background in the areas of grassroots mobilization, government relations, public policy and/or public health. This person must possess the ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner, to communicate effectively in writing and in person, to work independently as well as to accept specific direction, and to efficiently organize projects, materials and office systems. The Grassroots Field Coordinator reports to the Grassroots Advocacy Manager.
ROLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicant must have a strong interest in supporting and contributing to the LAF mission
- Knowledge of political decision making process; legislative/regulatory processes
- Ability to organize grassroots and professional constituencies in support of issues
- Knowledge of and appreciation for the use of technology and information systems to build broad-based support for priority issues
- Demonstrated experience in tracking contacts and leads, identifying whom is most interested and/or affected by a given issue
- Ability to understand and interpret research to support outreach efforts
- Knowledge of and experience with voluntary health organizations
- Persuasive writing and speaking skills
- Ability to train, counsel, motivate and lead
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruit and engage cancer advocates across the United States
- Implementing the "on the ground" grassroots organizing strategy and tactics in the field
- Identify, recruit and develop advocates to serve as local LIVESTRONG Army leaders
- Serve as the LAF point person supporting local LIVESTRONG Army leaders
- Mobilize teams to participate in LAF grassroots advocacy campaigns and events
- Raise the profile of LAF advocacy team activity in local media
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years’ related work experience, preferably in the areas of grassroots mobilization, government relations, public policy and/or public health
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work well with limited supervision; independent problem-solving skills to handle multiple tasks and to prioritize appropriately
COMPENSATION:
Position is full-time with complete benefits package.
TRAVEL:
This position will include travel up to 40%.
