At the Lance Armstrong Foundation, we unite people to fight cancer believing that unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation
Global Cancer Campaign
  • Cancer is global in scope and yet different from place to place. It needs a global response and Lance Armstrong and his foundation are the right people to do it.

    - U.S. President Bill Clinton
  • There is absolutely no way we can better address cancer if we do not join forces - society, government, NGOs, health institutions, oncologists - that's the clear way to go.

    - Dr. Alejandro Mohar-Betancourt, Director General, INCan
  • Acting on cancer nationally and internationally I think we can get there. But advocacy from guys like Lance is really important so let's keep at it.

    - Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd

LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Campaign

More than 12 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer and eight million will die from the disease each year. Worldwide, cancer will be the leading cause of death by 2010. To address this global cancer burden, the Lance Armstrong Foundation will join with local partners, organizations, world leaders and advocates to achieve three major goals.

  1. Together we will end the stigma of cancer and turn cancer victims into cancer survivors.
Millions of people around the world suffer from cancer in isolation, victims not only of the disease but of social stigma. This stigma leads to a lack of early detection, failure to seek treatment and an increase in cancer mortality.
  2. Together we will build an international grassroots movement that will take cancer from isolation to collaboration.
Research shows increased mortality is often caused by a lack of resources and knowledge related to cancer awareness, screening, prevention, treatment and care.
  3. Together with world leaders, we will transform cancer from obscurity to priority.
Cancer kills more people than malaria, tuberculosis and AIDS combined. However, many governments devote few resources to fighting cancer and collect little information about its causes and effects. The LAF will work with world leaders to focus on developing international partnerships, cancer advocacy, research and programs and data collection.

Only through collective action will we make cancer a global priority.

LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Summit

As the landmark event of the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Campaign, the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Summit in Dublin, Ireland, on August 24-26, 2009, will make the case for acting urgently to address the global cancer burden and introduce new commitments to cancer control by bringing together world leaders, corporations, non-governmental organizations and advocates in an unprecedented show of solidarity.

The LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Summit will provide a platform on which world leaders, organizations and individuals can achieve greater visibility and resonance for their efforts.

Up to 250 organizations and individuals making extraordinary commitments will be invited to attend the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Summit. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with other advocates, network, gain media exposure and access tools and resources.

Invitations to attend the Summit will be sent no later than June 15. Travel scholarships will be available for invited participants.

The Summit is only the beginning, as commitments will be highlighted in a variety of ways throughout the duration of the campaign. To learn more about the commitments that have been made, search our interactive commitments map.
