Ryan Phua Memorial Fund

Donor Name: Michele and John Phua
Established: 1/1/2004

Ryan Phua and his twin brother Matthew were born on December 15, 2000. They were our miracle babies who came to this world to provide endless joy to us after John overcame his battle with cancer. John was diagnosed with testicular cancer on December 9, 1997; he became involved with Livestrong (formerly The Lance Armstrong Foundation) soon afterwards and was a top fundraiser for the early years of the Ride for the Roses events.

Ryan died tragically in 2003, but our involvement with the Foundation never diminished, as it continued to provide a message of hope to those who face cancer. Cancer survivorship taught us to Livestrong and our love for Ryan continues to Livestrong with the creation of the Ryan Phua Memorial Fund, established to support cancer survivorship programs.

The Ryan Phua Memorial Kids' Bike Ride, part of the Annual Burlingame Criterium, is the largest kids' bike ride in the US. Each year over 600 children ages 12 and under pedal to the finish with thunderous applause. Every child is a champion, receiving a medal and ice cream, feeling proud of their accomplishment, and creating unforgettable memories with their own families as they cross the finish line. While the event is free, the children raise pledges for the Ryan Phua Memorial Fund.

Through joyous laughter and smiles from family and friends, Ryan's Ride offers our family a chance to celebrate his life, feel his presence more than his absence and provide us the ability to Livestrong.
