LIVESTRONG Leader News

Greetings! I hope all is well with you…wherever you are around the world. Things in Austin are busy and moving full speed ahead!

We are serving clients and meeting the needs of the cancer survivor community through our navigation and fertility services, the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program and by continuing to make progress with the LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes. In the midst of our work, we are receiving story after story after story. Read some of those stories here. Go to our website to learn more about how to share your story.

As a reminder, we have a Webex this week on Wednesday, April 26 at 11:00 AM (Central Time). Our Development team and Team LIVESTRONG will provide an overview of LIVESTRONG Day on Friday, May 19, details around the 20th anniversary tribute campaign and upcoming Team LIVESTRONG events including the Honor 5k/10k and The Challenge. Details regarding how to join the Webex are forthcoming.

If you have questions or need additional information, please let me know.

Life After Treatment—5 things to know

Cancer Survivors Matter

When you finish cancer treatment, your first instinct may be to jump back into your pre-cancer life as soon as possible. It’s important to know that your body and mind may have experienced a very difficult and life-changing event, and you may need to adjust to a “new normal.”

“In November of 2013 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was 37 at the time of my diagnosis with two daughters ages 4 & 6. I was active, ate healthy, and had no history of breast cancer in my family. It was a shock to say the least.”

We’re excited to announce that in celebration of our 20th anniversary, we have a new event in 2017! The LIVESTRONG Honor 5k/10k will be a family-friendly event held in Downtown Austin on September 17, 2017, and is sure to be a meaningful experience for all who attend.

The new event website will be launching on April 26th. Check back later this week for the link.

When we share our own life experiences, it can have a last impacting on those around us. We encourage you to share your cancer story below—whether it’s about your diagnosis, your treatment, your recovery or someone you know affected by cancer. Your story is important.
