I found LIVESTRONG whilst my father was dealing with his Cancer diagnoses. When I read more about the organization I just wondered why are not more people doing this? Offering navigation and education so that people understand their treatment options, how to pay for it, know their fertility options, learn about beneficial programs. They help people to live an empowered life, even through devastating illness.
I joined the Leader program in 2009 as I wanted to be part of this organization. It has shaped the last few years of my life. I have been educated about Cancer, the disease, and importantly I have been educated about what needs to be done now for people living with this disease, and many who will live with Cancer their whole lives.
I like supporting an organization that is all about the rights and needs of people. The Foundation is fighting Cancer, but because they are focused on the faces and voices of people, they see the word person right before the word Cancer, maybe that's why they stopped at this word "person" and shifted their focus from fighting the disease, and on to fighting for the people who need the help to cope and live with Cancer today.
I have many friends in the cancer community, every day I will read something from inside this powerful network and it will make my day easier, I will gain perspective. I have found a little more perspective from knowing this foundation and those who revolve around it.
